Two verification machines in the Tamale Central Constituency have been stolen by two young men suspected to be supporters of the opposing New Patriotic Party and are yet to be arrested by the police.
Mohammed Mutawakil, Presiding Officer of the Miskiya EA Primary School, Aboabo polling station told the GNA that at about 19:45 GMT, two young men identified as Aminu and Gbarigbari suspecting to be NPP supporters arrived at the polling station.
He alleged that soon on arrival, Gbarigbari came to the polling centre and pulled out a pistol and threatened to shoot at the voters who had queued to cast their ballots. Thereafter, he allegedly took away two of the verification machines, one of which was working while the other had been faulty.
Mr. Mutawakil said efforts by the voters to arrest the two suspects proved futile, adding that voting started late in the area and at the time the incident occurred, less than half of the people had cast their votes.
The number of people in the voter’s register at the Aboabo polling cente is 1,066.
