An inspired performance from Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart wasn't enough to keep Barcelona at bay, as the English side were knocked out from the Champions League.
Needing to score at least twice at the Nou Camp, it was always an uphill challenge for the visitors who were beaten 1-0 and 3-1 on aggregate.
Ivan Rakitic scored the game's only goal in the first half, lifting his shot over Joe Hart after being picked out by a Lionel Messi cross.
Manchester City had a glimmer of hope when Sergio Aguero won a penalty with 15 minutes to play, but the Argentina's spotkick was saved by Ter Stegen.
The hosts should have put the match out of sight in the second half, but Hart remained solid in goal making numerous sublime saves.
The result means no English club will make an appearance in the quarter-finals, with Arsenal and Chelsea knocked out by French opposition in Monaco and PSG respectively.
