The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana (UG) says as part of her vision, the institution will continue to roll out more Information and Communication Technology-driven initiatives that will enhance effective teaching and learning.
Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo made this pledge on the sidelines of a Thanksgiving Service to mark the University’s 75th Anniversary Celebrations, with support from Makers and Partners, a chartered accountancy firm.
She noted that through its ‘Students Experience’ Project, UG is providing free laptops to needy students and affordable laptops with flexible payment plans for non-needy students.
The Vice-Chancellor stated that the project also includes classroom modernization, and the third technological component is the ‘hot-spot’ comfort zones, where WiFi-enabled places are created and students could relax between their lectures, finish assignments and do other academic-related activities.
Professor Amfo said, “Generally, we seek to give our students an excellent experience whiles they are here on campus so that we are able to give them the required skills for the 21st century and prepare them for the fourth industrial revolution”.

Mr Alfred Aryee, a partner at Makers and Partners, underscored the need for Ghana’s premier university to roll out forensic investigation programmes that would equip students with skills to help fight fraud.
He said the front liners of Makers and Partners being members of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), the Firm is well positioned to partner with UG in rolling out such initiatives that would help produce the human resources to augment forensic investigation departments in the country.
He noted that Makers and Partners offer services including Forensic Investigation Training, Forensic Audits, Statutory Audits, Tax Advisory Services, Corporate Advisory Services, and SME Business Solutions.
Mr Aryee also touched on the need for more internship programs which must be aligned with the student’s field of study.
He added, “This will enable them to acquire the practical experience which will help them build their interest and capacities in the corporate field”.
