The management of the University of Ghana has served notice on health and wellness activities, restricting all forms of exercise to be moved away from campus after 7:30 am on weekdays.
According to the management of the school, they have regular usage of the University campus for physical exercise by employees, students and members of the public.
While the University appreciates the importance of these activities, they are keen to ensure the environment serves its core and academic and administrative functions.
In ensuring that, the management has restricted all physical exercise activities on campus after 7:30 am during the course of the week.
"To ensure that the core academic and administrative activities of the University proceed smoothly, Management requests that after 7:30 a.m. on weekdays, all exercise activities be conducted away from the Convocation group of buildings (Registry), other administrative areas, and academic facilities," a statement from the management said.
"This measure is intended to allow staff and students to access their offices, lecture halls and laboratories without hindrance, and also to ensure the safety of those exercising, as vehicular movement begins in these areas with the start of the official workday.
"Employees and students of the University and members of the public are encouraged to make use of other designated areas, including facilities under the University's Sports and Wellness Directorate on weekdays.
"The University campus remains open and accessible for exercise activities on weekends (there may be restrictions on weekends when official University events are taking place).
"The University values its positive relationship with the public and appreciates the cooperation of all users of the campus in helping to maintain a safe environment that supports both academic excellence and healthy lifestyles.
"We wish all an active and healthy year and thank you for your understanding and continued."
