The Northern Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bugri Naabu is said to be recovering from a near-fatal crash Thursday dawn.
JoyNews Correspondent, Martina Bugri, reports, doctors at the Tamale Teaching Hospital have abandoned an earlier plan to airlift Mr. Naabu to Accra for medical attention after they assessed his condition.
His injury is not as serious as it was initially feared to be, the reporter said.
The accident reportedly occurred while he was returning from Sawla and Bole, where he had gone to campaign for the upcoming Regional election slated for this Saturday.
Chairman Bugri Naabu's vehicle was said to have veered off the road while it was raining and the driver to lose control of the steering wheel. The vehicle somersaulted several times and landed on the side.
Two other occupants who suffered a head injury and a fractured leg, are receiving treatment at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.
Two others also sustained what medical officers say are minor injuries.
