Voting got off to a slow start at the Sarbah Rd. Harvard Primary and JHS 2 polling station in Accra, where the Electoral Commission (EC) officer charged with distributing parliamentary ballots to voters did not show up.
About 45 minutes after voting started, another EC agent took over the absent officer’s duties and the queue began moving at a normal pace.
The same polling station also began the voting exercise without a security agent present. There were a couple of extremely minor quarrels, but a voter at the polling station told Myjoyonline.com that the constituents settled the disputes quickly among themselves because of their commitment to a conflict-free election.
At around 8 am, security personnel had not arrived at the station but shortly after the report was sent out via Joy FM, a member of the Fire Service arrived to keep an eye on the process.
At the Accra Tech Training School 1 (A) polling station, also known as ATTC, voters were at a loss for why the election exercises were delayed, starting at around 8:30 am instead of 7:00 am.
At both stations, voters reported no violent incidents. There were a couple of squabbles at ATTC concerning voters trying to move to the front of the queue, but as more police officers arrived, they were able to calm things down and move the cutters to the back of the queue.
