Workers at the Volta River Authority (VRA) are protesting government’s decision to cede some operations of the authority to a third party.
With red bands tied to their arms, heads and necks the workers demanded a return of the three assets- T3 plant, a mine reserve plant and a parcel of land at Kpone which government had given to a third party to manage.

The workers also hanged pieces of red cloth on the VRA building in Accra and on some of their vehicles to register their protest.
They do not understand why government, without any consultation, will take a decision to cede those three important assets to a third party to manage.

A meeting between a government delegation led by the acting Power Minister Seth Terkper and presidential aide Sam George and management of the Authority, Wednesday, could not stop the workers from embarking on the demonstration.

The workers insist that government must return the assets to the management of the VRA.
Meanwhile Joy News sources say the workers union of the Volta River Authority, will again meet with officials of the Power Ministry Thursday afternoon over their concerns.
