The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has described as false a statement by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that the NPP was trying to rig the elections and claim victory.
“That statement is false on both counts. The NDC is not winning and we are not trying to rig this election,” it said a statement issued in Accra on Monday by Dr Arthur Kennedy, Chairman of he Communication Committee of the campaign Committee of the NPP.
“Until now, we have refrained from claiming victory because four years ago, we did correctly claim victory and were criticised by the NDC and others.
“At this point, with about 10 percent of votes counted, we can assert that our candidate is in the lead in the presidential elections and is heading for a first round victory while we are on course to maintain our parliamentary majority,” the statement said.
The party asked the NDC and other parties to allow the Electoral Commission to do its work and “to cease their disgraceful efforts aimed at discrediting this election”.
