The Electoral Commission in the Northern Region is yet to conduct the district level elections at two polling centers in Nanton and Tatale following some chaos during the polls.
At the Sabonjida polling center in Tatale, some thugs made away with a ballot box during the voting process.
A similar incident was repeated at Kpunduli in the Nanton district, forcing the Electoral Commission to suspend elections in that center.
In an interview with JoyNews, the Northern Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, Lucas Yiryil, said the EC has been advised to hold on with the exercise until security arrangements are made to enable them conduct the elections.
"As for us at the EC, we are ready, it's security clearance we are waiting for. We were set for the Kpunduli elections yesterday but we were told there could be a security breach if we go ahead so we suspended it," he said.
He added that the District Security Committee in Tatale will hold a meeting to decide on the way forward.
"We have been informed that DISEC is meeting today to find a solution to this security issue before we can move on," Mr Yiryil added.
He emphasised that apart from the two areas which are yet to participate in the district level elections, the Dakpema Presby polling station elections were held successfully.
Mr Yiryil said only one electoral area’s result is being contested in the Northern Region.
