The Youth Wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) would help to ensure that the 2012 general elections are free, fair and violent-free, Mr. Ludwig Hlodze, National Youth Organizer of the party, has declared. He said the Youths of the Party "would not sit down" for the process to be derailed and marred in anyway because that would amount to the subversion of the expressed will of the electorate. Mr. Hlodze made the declaration at a media encounter in Sunyani on Friday as part of a nation-wide tour by the communication team of the Party to explain government policies, programmes and achievements since its assumption of office in January 2009. The essence of the tour is to equip the Youths with the necessary tools and information for the right and effective campaign message in the presidential and parliamentary elections slated for December next year. He emphasized that the government would play its role as required for the effective and efficient organisation of the Election by the Electoral Commission for credible results that would be accepted by all parties and stakeholders. The process would be managed to maintain the nation’s integrity, credibility and achievement of peaceful elections to deepen Ghana’s democratic credentials, the Youth Organiser stressed, adding, they would make sure the nation did not fall apart as had happened in Rwanda, Somalia and other trouble spots in Africa. Mr. Hlodze urged Ghanaians, especially the Youths to avoid politics of insult saying, that could undermine the progress of the country. He therefore appealed to members of the opposition to centre their talks, debates and discussions on issues affecting the lives of the populace and come out with alternative policies that would help to develop the country. Mr. Hlodze dispelled the perception being held by a section of the general public that the University of Energy and Natural Resources as well as that of Health and Allied Sciences being established in Brong-Ahafo and Volta Regions respectively, by the government would not be a reality. The National Youth Organiser said the essence of establishing those universities were to expand access to tertiary education and reiterated that the implementation of that initiative by the government was on course. Mr. Hlodze said the issue of temporary accommodation facilities and the recruitment of key personnel like the Vice-Chancellors (VCs), Pro-VCs, Registrars and Finance Officers had all been sorted out by the Presidential Committee of Experts and Consultants on the two projects. He expressed the hope that before the 2012 general elections, the two universities would have become operational. Mr. Felix Kwaakye Ofosu, member of the communication team who highlighted on the government’s economic achievements, said due to its prudent economic measures, favourable and investor-friendly fiscal and monetary policies, the nation’s economy had been stabilized and placed on a stronger pedestal. He said that had attracted a lot of investments into the country citing among others that Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), a fast food company with global franchise from the United States of America had established in Accra. Mr. Ofosu indicated that “the best way to put money into people’s pocket” was to give them sustainable employment, hence the government under the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) had introduced the Agricultural Module which now provides 80,000 young people with jobs. According to him, 50,000 people had also been employed through the National Afforestation Project whilst 20,000 more people were also working under the Eco-brigade Module of the National Youth Employment Programme.
