An old student of Wesley Girls' High School has expressed worry over the school's decision to ban students from fasting.

Samira Sulemana, speaking on PM Express, Monday, revealed that the ban is just one of the challenges Muslim students face on campus.

According to her, Muslim students are not allowed to observe Salat (5 daily prayers) as mandated by their religion.

“The issue these girls are facing goes beyond just the fasting. I am surprised that all that is being talked about is the fasting. They [Muslims] are not allowed to pray, they are not being allowed to even talk to each other as Muslims."

Her comment comes after authorities of the school refused to rescind its decision to disallow some students from fasting in the month of Ramadan.

According to the school's heads, its decision is not about religion but one borne out of previous experiences regarding students who suffered health conditions while fasting.

Reacting to the response by the authorities, Samira Sulemana intimated that the school has never given due recognition to Muslim students, an act she describes as worrying.

The Ghanaian US-based Attorney further noted that the discussion of the Wesley Girls' brouhaha should go beyond fasting.
