There is nothing wrong with ambition (Issa Hayattou knows best), but ambition buttered with selfless service to the people is what brings success and satisfaction.
The ‘war’ brewing in the corridors of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ghana Football Association (GFA), which is being driven by ambition is reaching fever pitch.
The Minister, Akua Sena Dansoa’s decision to withdraw and replace GFA chairman, Kwesi Nyantakyi’s nomination to serve on CAF’s executive committee, with former Black Stars captain, Abedi Pele, has been opposed by the Executive Committee of the FA.
The ministry’s reason for such a nippy u-turn is not readily known, but this means the legal fisticuffs between the FA and the Ministry is not abating any time soon.
Funny enough, the Executive Committee has also appointed Aloysius Denkabe as the chairman of the Public Interest Committee, calling the bluff of the Minister who proposed the same Abedi Pele to head that committee.
For most football lovers, what matters is to ensure that this power struggle does not disrupt the activities of the national teams, especially the Black Stars.
So what is with these two personalities and the ensuing animosity between the two bodies –FA and the Ministry—that seem to be causing a lot of unrest among football officials?
Certainly, what Abedi Pele wants is to play a significant role in changing the face of football administration in the country and perhaps, the continent.
In the same vain, Kwesi Nyantakyie has proven that his administrative acumen is top notch and would make a great impact on the continent when given the opportunity to serve the sub-region.
So the question is, among these two personalities with completely different skills and achievements, who do Ghanaians think is best placed to represent Ghana on CAF’s Executive Committee?
