The Upper East Regional Minister, Mr Mark Woyongo, has appealed to representatives of the Mamprusis in Bawku to return to the Bawku Inter Ethnic Peace Committee to complete the road map for achieving peace in Bawku. He noted that their continuous stay away from the negotiation table was hurting their efforts to restore peace. Representatives of the Mamprusis on the Bawku Inter Ethnic Peace Committee withdrew their members a few months ago and have since refused to have anything to do with its activities especially, traditional pacification rites aimed at cleansing the land of the blood spilled during the conflict in the area. Mr Woyongo made the appeal when he led a delegation to the leadership of the Mamprusi community in Bawku to hand over to family members, a victim of recent violent attacks at Siliminaba, near Bawku. In August this year, Mr Dauda Seidu and another person were attacked and nearly killed when they went to their farm. In the process, they sustained several injuries all over their bodies and were transferred to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital. The condition of Dauda, however, deteriorated and the regional administration arranged for a special flight to transfer him to Accra for further medical attention. With support from the Deputy Minister of Education and former MP for Bawku, Dauda was treated and discharged. The Upper East Regional Minister, who handed over the victim to his family members, commended Mamprusis for exercising restraint and not resorting to acts of retaliation, which he observed would have degenerated into chaos and continuous bloodshed. He described the incident as unfortunate and said the government was committed to finding lasting peace in Bawku. According to him, four individuals have so far been arrested in connection with the attack out of which two have been granted bail. On behalf of the regional coordinating council, he donated five bags of maize and five bags of rice to Dauda. The Bawku Municipal Chief Executive, Musa Abdullai, condemned the attack and said the assembly was terribly disturbed by it. He was, however, hopeful that the law would take its course and justice would prevail. An Elder of the Mamprusis in Bawku, Mr Seidu Akalifa, expressed appreciation to the regional minister and the government for showing concern in issues relating to Bawku.
