The Electoral Commission (EC) has set July 31 for a by-election at Wulensi to elect a Member of Parliament replace the late MP for the constituency Alhaji Sani Iddi, who died a few weeks ago.
Alhaji Iddi died at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital after a protracted illness.
In a statement signed by the Deputy Chairman in charge of Operations at the EC, Safo Kantanka, the EC said the Commission's action was accordance with Article 112(5) of the 1992 Constitution.
The statement said, “the Commission will take nominations for the said by-election on Tuesday 3rd and Wednesday 4th of July 2012, at the district office of the Commission at Wulensi between the hours of 8:00am and 12:30pm and 1:30pm and 5pm."
“Nominations forms may be obtained from the District Office of the Commission at Wulensi or at the Regional Office of the Commission in Tamale.
“Candidates for the election shall provide two recent photographs (bust) with red background on the submission of their nomination forms,” it noted.
Prospective candidate will be require to pay a filing fee of GH¢500.
