Ghana Coach, Kwesi Appiah says he hopes all 32 qualified nations that will play in this year’s World Cup will play farewell games before departing their various countries to Brazil where the World’s biggest sporting event will be held.
The 2014 FIFA World Cup will kick off in Brazil on June 12th and will end on July 13th and Kwesi Appiah says the best way for all the participating countries to bid farewell to their home fans would be to play in the farewell games before making the trip to Brazil where some of the World’s best players will showcase their footballing talents for their various countries.
In his interview with sportscrusader.com, Appiah who will be leading Ghana to its third straight World Cup appearance said the best possible thing that his team will give to Ghanaian soccer fans is to play in the farewell game with the selected players from Ghana’s local Leagues.
“If I had my way I would have ensured that all qualified nations for the World Cup will play farewell games for their home fans before travelling for the Tournament”.
“FIFA must consider this because it is the only true way to bid farewell to the fans you expect to stand behind you in the Tournament. I congratulate the organizers for putting this excellent idea together. We are all for it” he said
Ghana’s Black Stars made up of Kwesi Appiah’s 26-man squad will on Friday 23rd May 2014 engage locally based players to be selected from Ghana’s Leagues in a match to be played at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The game dubbed the FAREWELL MATCH is being put together by Primeval Media and the Ghana Football Association ad will be the first of its kind in Ghana.
