The Madina Branch of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) is searching for a 50-year-old man accused of impregnating a 14-year-old foster child in his care. The man David Otibu had attempted to terminate the pregnancy. He is said to have regularly defiled the minor for the past six years since he adopted her and then given her a substance known as “magic moments” to terminate her pregnancy. The victim’s teacher, Gifty Nortey, who lodged the complaint with DOVVSU, told Joy News tests by the Pantang Hospital confirmed the victim’s pregnancy. She said she had earlier warned the child not to consume the concoction given her by her foster father.Meanwhile, the decision by the school authorities to lodge a complaint with DOVVSU has angered the chief of the town, Nii Manle Dzahaa who is a friend to the suspect, Ms Nortey said. The chief in a fit of anger has reportedly asked Ms Nortey and the headmistress of the school to leave the town for reporting the incident to DOVVSU.The crime officer in charge of Madina DOVVSU, Chief Superintendent Beatrice Amoako, who confirmed the incident to Joy News says they have mounted a search for the suspect and were confident he would soon be apprehended. The girl who is a pupil of the St. James Anglican Basic School in Teiman near Oyarifa has been taken to a shelter for appropriate care while investigations continue.Credit: Yaa Asamoah/Joy FM/Ghana
