The Eastern regional Police Command has arrested six persons suspected to be armed robbers in Koforidua.
They are believed to be among a gang of armed men who have been terrorising residents of New Juaben municipality and have been on the wanted list of the Police for some time now.
The suspects were identified as Samuel Kwame Akwetey, alias Kwame Agbeko, 35, Godwin Ametornyo, Isaac Agbomor, Charles Awuku, 47, Mohammed Zembo, 32 and Gideon Boateng, 28.
Briefing the media at the Regional Police Headquarters in Koforidua, Eastern Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Akuriba Yagy said one of the suspects, Samuel Kwame Akwetey, was arrested in front of the Koforidua Ghana commercial bank by a good samaritan after his name was mentioned by Nicholas Eshun, a known armed robber who was arrested on January,1, this year.
With the help of a taxi driver, according to the Police Commander, the suspect was sent to the Regional Police Heaquaters and upon investigations, Akwetey mentioned the names Godwin Ametornyo ,Isaac Agbomor, and Harisson who is at large, as his accomplices.
Mr.Akuriba Yagy explained that two other accomplices who act as ‘receivers’ of stolen items, Charles Awuku, Mohammed Zembo were also arrested at their hide out in Kpong.
The regional Police boss further stated that Gideon Boateng, the owner of a Toyota Corolla with registration number, GE 2882-12, who also act as the ‘transporters’ of the stolen items was also apprehended Friday morning in Koforidua.

DCOP Akuriba Yagy explained that upon a thorough search, the Police retrieved items including two sets of plasma television and laptop computers.
The Police also recovered, a pistol, machetes and other supplicated weapons from the robbers.
