60 Ghanaian students win Erasmus Scholarship to study in Europe

60 Ghanaian students have been awarded the prestigious Erasmus Scholarship to pursue higher education in top academic institutions across Europe.

The Erasmus Scholarship Program is a unique opportunity for students to broaden their career horizons, gain top-class knowledge, and develop global perspectives through studying at renowned European universities.

At a pre-departure event in Accra on August 22, The European Union Ambassador to Ghana, Irchad Razaaly, announced that the scholarship will offer students an opportunity to have an outstanding education and experience.

He said, “EU is a key partner to Ghana on education including the Erasmus+ offering Ghanaian youth a unique opportunity to gain top-level academic experience, but also diverse cultural experiences throughout your journeys in Europe.

In Addition, he stated that he had no doubt that this program would shape the skills and character of the 60 beneficiaries, preparing them for competitive and stimulating careers.

“I also hope that your experiences will fuel your inner leaders and change makers, and give you new insights on how to build better futures – both in Ghana and beyond..” he added

The program covers a wide range of disciplines, including STEM fields, humanities, social sciences, arts, and business. This diverse representation reflects the EU’s commitment to enhancing education partnerships between Europe and Ghana and fostering the exchange of knowledge and expertise in various domains.

This Scholarship is one of the initiatives under Erasmus+ that supports international mobility and contributes to strengthening Africa’s technical and higher education space.

The Erasmus+ Scholarship Program not only offers unparalleled academic opportunities, but also fosters cultural understanding, mutual respect, and the building of lifelong connections between Ghana and Europe.

The EU is strongly committed to promoting mobility, diversity, and excellence in higher education through the Erasmus+ and other education programs in Africa and Ghana with the aim to nurture future leaders, foster global networks, and create a more inclusive and interconnected world.

With the Global Gateway, the EU is increasing investments in quality education and working with partner countries to strengthen cooperation on research and innovation.

One of the beneficiaries, Joana Owusu-Appiah shared her joy in having been selected to study at the University of Burgundy in France

Addressing the awardees at the pre-departure ceremony, Mamle Adrews, the Chief Director of the Ministry of Education stated that Ghana looks forward to the return of these 60 privileged students to Ghana, equipped with new perspectives, innovative ideas, and a zeal to contribute to the development of our great Nation.

She also urged them to be good ambassadors of Ghana while they seize the opportunity to learn and explore.
