Retained General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Johnson Asiedu Nketia has defended the decision by his immediate former deputy, Koku Anyidoho, to stand against him in the just ended national delegates congress.

Asiedu Nketia, who beat Anyidoho by nearly 5,000 votes, rejected the tag of “betrayal” placed on Mr. Anyidoho for going up in the contest with someone many considered has had a hand in his political career.  

Asiedu Nketia secured 6,655 of votes counted while Anyidoho polled only 1,655 votes.

The comments is in contrast to the remark by Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the NDC, Joseph Ade Coker, suggesting that Mr. Anyidoho’s decision to upstage his superior was a wrong move and smacked of arrogance.

According to him: “If Koku had consulted me, I would have asked him to go for another position…it was a wrong move. It was a wrong move. Koku is a nice guy; he is a very nice gentleman but it is a wrong move.”

“You see it is like father and son…somebody that you have worked with closely and you go and you want to contest that person. It’s never the best…Every aspect of life there is that lesson,” Chairman Ade Coker told Joy News.

However, speaking exclusively to Joy News’ Daniel Dadzie on the Super Morning Show Monday, Asiedu Nketia described it as “normal” in regards to his deputy’s desire to rise to the top of his political career.

“In politics, you don’t talk about betrayal…there’s nothing wrong with ambition,” Asiedu Nketia popularly known as General Mosquito, stated.

“In fact you do politics without ambition then you are in the wrong profession,” he said, patting his ambitious subordinate on the back, for aspiring to be chief executive of the opposition party.

He also dismissed the assertion that Koku Anyidoho’s decision was a badly thought about move. “…anybody who is contesting you cannot be seen as somebody who is doing something wrong,” he added.

“General Mosquito” hinted at the handling of Anyidoho as a key role in the party as they are determined to recapture power from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

As the Chief Executive of the party, he can tap into the human resource base of the party to deliver victory in the 2020 general elections.
