After careful analysis of the upcoming GBA congress on Thursday March 14th 2013, I realized myriad of flaws and lack of transparency regarding the formulation of the constitution, modalities and the road map to congress.
The process does not provide us with a concise and workable constitution for the betterment of boxing in this country. As a result, I wish to express my profound gratitude to my teaming supporters and all stakeholders to humbly withdraw my candidacy to contest the presidential slot.
I have served mother Ghana with all enthusiasm, strength, God given wisdom, knowledge and my resources and wish to pledge that I will continue to that at any given time once am alive. I think my service to mother Ghana wasn’t good enough for some people and it brought me hatred and jealousy from some quarters.
If today some of my own board members could go to the press accusing me for not doing well, and that I didn’t handle issues well and all of a sudden turn around to promise the moon when they are voted to the office of GBA President, the question is, why didn’t they attend meetings to put their ideas on the table during my tenure for discussions and implementations rather than instigating some stakeholders to go around National Sports Authority and the ministry for Sports telling all sort of lies and concocted stories against me.
They went further to the internet without my side of the story being considered before publication. There is much to say but I reserve my comments for the right time.
My effort and the legacy I have left behind in Boxing for my over forty years and the latest four year tenure as the immediate past president will attest to my enviable records. Even those who were instigated against me, in their hearts, if they will speak the truth know the good job, the discipline, strictness of my administration, my dedication and my hard work. Even on weekends there were emails for the matchmakers, when I was called upon I came over to the office to issue out letters for them.
During week days I stayed late to write and answer email for problems ranging from international and local partners. It was the government who appointed me for two years and my work attestted for itself and stayed on for another two years and I think I have served my position very to best of my ability.
I have done so many things in this country when it comes to sports especially boxing. During the famine days I was among late (Kojo Sardine) and some selected individuals who were given an assignment to produce kenkey, I was producing 10,000 balls of kenkey a day at High street, Kinshasa and we served some areas in Bukom, Korley Gonno, Mamprobi Plaza. I will keep on serving mother Ghana when I am called upon.
Let me take this opportunity to thank my able and honest members who stood by me during thin and thick, during the storm and Pulled him Down syndrome attitude. Namely, lawyer Felix Quartey who was the lawyer for GBA and chairman for Arbitration Committee. Mr. Mohammed Amin Lamptey who was the spoke person and also doubled as our seasoned ring announcer, Mr. Atta Eddie Pappoe a member, and many thanks goes to Alhaji Zaid, Mr. Ahmed Apedo (Pasasa) and the last but not the least General Quartey for his support. And of course my personal secretary, Mr. Michael Patterson and former World champion Ike Quartey.
Let me say kudos and God’s blessing to all of them.
I end here to say at the right time I will come out with the whole story about what I encountered during my servitude to boxing in mother Ghana.
I appeal to all my supporters especially the boxers and some trainers, to exercise extreme patience. I take this chance to thank the Government for the opportunity given to me to serve mother Ghana.
Nothing is Terminal. Everything is transitional. Every end is a new beginning
Thank you
SAMIR CAPTAN (FORMER GBA PRESIDENT)
