A member of the Nkoranza Traditional Council in the newly created Bono East Region, Nana Owusu Damoah Ameyaw, has asked some irate youth of Nkoranza to support the siting of the region's capital at Takyiman.
The Boabenghene said the youth should be focused on proffering ways to develop the entire region instead of agitating over where the regional capital should be sited.
Some New Patriotic Party (NPP) youth within Nkoranza have defected from the party saying they have been betrayed.
They say instead of Nkoranza, President Akufo-Addo named Takyiman as the capital of the newly created region.
They also say a promise made to them about resettling some monies they lost to DKM Micro Finance, God Is Love and Jaster Motors have also not been fulfilled.
Speaking on Adom FM’s current affairs show, Burning Issues on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, Nana Damoah Ameyaw commended the President for selecting Takyiman as the capital for Bono East Region.
He urged the President to fulfil his promise of decentralising development, adding that the Traditional Council would prefer that the regional minister is chosen from Nkoranza.
Before the agitation by the Nkoranza youth, the Salaga South New Patriotic Party (NPP) constituency office had been set ablaze by a section of the youth on Tuesday, February 12, 2019, after Damango was chosen as the capital of yet another newly created Savannah Region.
Those youth had also preferred Salaga to be the capital of Savannah Region.
They pulled down an undisclosed number of party billboards in the town and hinted that the office of the Municipal Assembly and the residence of the Municipal Chief Executive, Mohammed Tamimu, would be the next places to attack.
Meanwhile, the East Gonja Police Command have arrested seven persons in connection with the burning truncating their successive plans.
Meanwhile, Executive Secretary for the Committee for the creation of Bono East region, Prof. Christopher Ameyaw Akumfi, speaking on the same show indicated the selection of the capitals was based on a lot of factors including but not limited to economic activities, geographical location and existing infrastructure.
