Three time winners TP Mazembe have been shockingly eliminated from CAF Champions League by Orlando Pirates of South Africa.
The Lubumbashi-based side managed a slim 1-0 victory but it was not enough to help them progressed through.
This means their five Ghanaian players will also not play any further part in Africa’s flagship club competition.
The Congolese giants have been kicked out of the competition by the virtue of the superior goal aggregate, having lost 3-1 in the first leg played at the Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg.
Mazembe coach Lamine N’Diaye named former Kotoko defender Yaw Frimpong and Solomon Asante in his starting line-up while Daniel Nii Adjei and Gladson Awako were left on the substitute bench.
Defender Richard Kissi Boateng was suspended.
Meyiwa, Orlando’s goalkeeper, saved two penalties to help a Pirates team that had skipper Lucky Lekgwathi sent off hold on till the final whistle.
