Some women are fortunate enough to get pregnant on their first try, but for others, the process is a long, long road! To increase your odds, put these positions to the test now.
Try missionary with a twist
While there's no single sex position that can ensure pregnancy 100 percent, nurse and midwife Carmen Kosicek, RN, MSN, suggests making love missionary style with a pillow underneath your hips for the best shot at conceiving a child. "Stay put for 45-60 minutes afterward, when his semen has become more liquid like,” she instructs. "In this position, your uterus is generally well-situated to aid in the sperm reaching the egg.”
Do it doggie style
Good news: This position not only enables deep penetration, but it's also especially beneficial for women with a tilted or tipped uterus or cervix, points out Stacy Rybchin, founder of My Secret Luxury. "During doggie style, the uterus and cervix are lifted and level with the vaginal opening. The man enters with deeper thrusts and deposits sperm closer to the cervix,” she explains. Theoretically, because these sperm don't have to travel as far, they can get to the egg quicker.
Any position that makes you orgasm
Turns out, climaxing could actually facilitate pregnancy! Dr. Ava Cadell, spokesperson for The Experience Channel and renowned love and sex therapist, says that reaching orgasm is even more important in terms of baby making than the position you do the deed in itself. When a woman has an orgasm, her uterine wall contracts, and these contractions, in turn, have a vacuum-like effect, sucking the sperm up and moving them closer to the egg. "Since only 25 percent of women can achieve orgasm through intercourse, it's best to use a vibrator to stimulate the clitoris during penetration and help ensure one,” she notes.
