A 37 year old mother of seven has daring authorities at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi, to go to court over claims she is tarnishing the hospital’s image.Afia Krapah has been accusing the hospital of shelving a nurse who allegedly caused one of her twin babies to be paralyzed after birth. She says two years ago when she gave birth at the hospital, an unidentified nurse told her on delivery that the baby was dead and had to be taken to a designated ward for still-born babies.Afia indicated one month after she had been discharged, with the other surviving baby, officials of the hospital’s Social Welfare Unit called at her residence to accuse her of abandoning her child. She followed up to the hospital for the baby only to discover it was paralyzed in one leg.Hospital officials have declined to speak to the issue on record, though they explained to Nhyira FM, they have closed the chapter on the issue with the woman. They are also suggesting the woman is mentally challenged, and are threatening legal action against her and any media house for maligning the hospital.Afia is however firm about her position, and expressed her resolve to meet the hospital authorities in court.Ashanti Regional Director of the Social Welfare Department, Jacob Achulo, who said he was unaware of the issue, indicated his outfit will commence investigations into it.Meanwhile, a paramount chief who wants to remain anonymous has offered to support Afia to hire legal services, if she is bent on pursuing the case.
