Retired referee Alex Kotey says improved security is urgently needed at the various stadia in the country during matches in the Glo premier league games if the standards of refereeing in the country will improve.
Some Premier league referees over the years have been victims of assault at match venues and these have attracted various sanctions from the Ghana FA.
Retired referee Alex Kotey in an interview with Nathaniel Attoh on Saturday's Joy Sports Link show wants the Ghana Football Association to engage military personnel to compliment efforts of the Police personnel who are often overwhelmed by such incidents.
“Over the years we have called on the Ghana FA that security at our various league centers are not that adequate enough and not just adequate but also not efficient,” said Kotey.
“There are a lot of instances at our various stadia which clearly shows some of the security personnel are not performing their duties well and so when that happens it put the referees life at stake.
“When you are officiating and you see things like that it becomes difficult to even concentrate on the game.
“We must just identify the trouble venues and send Military men instead of sending Police Officers there,” he added.
Asante Kotoko is currently serving home match bans following the violent behaviour of their fans in a game against Medeama SC at the Baba Yara Stadium.
The Executive Committee of the Ghana Football Association also recently closed down Aduana's Nana Agyeman Badu Park following physical assault on referee Solomon Mordey by fans of the club during last Sunday's league match against Liberty Professionals.
