Parliament on Tuesday reconvened for the second meeting of the First Session of the Sixth Parliament after a two-month break with the House welcoming and swearing in the Convention People’s Party’s (CPP) sole representative to the legislature.
Amadu Moses Yahaya was elected the CPP’s Member for the Kumbungu Constituency in the Northern Region when the seat became vacant after the incumbent MP, Muhammad Mumuni, was appointed the Secretary-General of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and African Caribbean Pacific countries to complete the tenure of Dr. Mohammed Ibn Chambas.
The new entrant took the oaths of Member of Parliament and Allegiance, with members showing delight that his entry was to replace an elevated colleague and not a loss.
Speaker Edward Doe Adjaho, welcoming members back to the House, thanked God for their wellbeing during the recess and prayed to Him (God) to look upon the house with favour to carry out the work of Parliament efficiently and effectively.
The House will in the course of the second meeting consider a number of bills including the Minerals and Mining (Amendment) Bill, 2013 and the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre Bill, 2013.
A number of reports are also expected to be laid before the House. High on this agenda would be the Report of the Auditor-General on the Statement of Foreign Receipts and Payments of the Bank of Ghana for the half year which ended June 30, 2012.
The house would also take motions for debate and notice of questions by members, as well as other referrals at Committees.
