Delta Airlines, the leading US carrier in West Africa, will by the close of the year introduce Boeing 767-300 aircraft with fully flat-bed seats for customers flying in Business Elite.
Customers will be able to enjoy 77-inch, 180-degree full flat-beds in a one-two-one configuration, allowing direct aisle access and enhanced privacy.
The aircraft will also have an in-seat audio and video on demand as entertainment throughout Economy Class on flights providing more than 20 first-run and popular classic movies, a variety of television programmes, thousands of music titles and a suite of video games.
A statement, signed by Mr Perry Cantarutti, Senior Vice President Europe, Middle East and Africa Region and announced last Thursday, also congratulated the people of Ghana and Africa on the 50th anniversary celebration of the formation of the Africa Union (AU).
“We are delighted to share in Africa‘s 50th anniversary celebrations. Africa and Ghana specifically is an important and integral part of our business. We remain committed to Ghana’s aviation industry as well as improving our customers’ travel experience and we are proud to have served Ghana for more than six years.”
The statement said the economy comfort, which remains Delta’s premium economy service, would be available on all flights providing up to four additional inches of legroom and 50 per cent more recline than Delta’s standard economy class seat, as well as priority boarding.
The airline was committed to the development of the aviation industry in Ghana and Africa, hence the decision to use the opportunity to demonstrate its commitments.
According to the statement, “Delta will not relent in its effort to offer good and reliable services to the people of Ghana and Africa adding that they have in partnership with KLM built two new boarding gates at Accra Kotoka Airport to improve passenger comfort and convenience.”
It said, Delta was also investing in the industry to ensure the highest level of reliability in the schedule with increased maintenance and customer service personnel based in Accra, together with service training programmes and changed onboard menus to feature selections that were more appealing to Ghanaian customers.
Delta currently operates daily flights from Accra, Ghana to New York-JFK, United States of America as well as three weekly services to Monrovia, Liberia.
It operates in four other African countries; Liberia, Nigeria, Senegal, and South Africa and has transported over 3 million customers between Africa and the US.
