The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Tema East, Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover says the alleged corruption at the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA) has “exposed President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC government big time.”There have been several reports of alleged corruption in the running of the programme, with government officials said to be shielding the persons fingered in a number of investigations including one conducted by Joy FM’s Manasseh Azuri Awuni .According to the MP, this was further evidence that President Mahama had failed to fulfill his pledge to actively fight corruption in the country. Rather, a key issue in his first 100 days but it has increased.The Member of Parliament for Tema East was speaking Wednesday on Adom FM’s “Burning Issues” programme, which was also broadcast live on Asempa FM.Based on the alleged corruption, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah has formed a five member committee to review the regulatory framework as well as the operations of GYEEDA. It has eight weeks to present its report.Mr Titus-Glover prayed that the committee formed by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, which has oversight over the programme, will reveal all “the rot at GYEEDA” and in other programmes although he had little confidence of a positive outcome.Critics have wondered what impact the findings of the committee will have when a similar report put together by National Security had been left to gather dust, as exposed by former Journalist of the Year Manasseh Awuni.But Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Joseph Yamin said the Committee, which was inaugurated in April 2013, will soon present its report for a decision to be taken on GYEEDA.He noted that party communicators must allow the committee to submit its report before jumping to any conclusion.Yamin said his Ministry will soon invite former heads of institutions that had worked in collaboration with the Ministry to give evidence before the committee.He stated that the government will not shielded any person will be figured in the alleged corruption at GYEEDA.Meanwhile, a former Minister of Manpower, Youth and Employment, Nana Akomea has criticized the Mahama administration for deviating from the original concept for the National Youth Employment Program (NYEP) which was established in 2006 by the Kufour administration.He noted that the NYEP was mandated to offer employment and reduce the high unemployment rate among Ghanaian youth but it appears to have lost its focus.
