The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joseph Ade Coker has conceded the ruling party was a "bad loser" when it challenged the 2004 presidential election in court.According to him, bad losers find solace in seeking legal redress after an election and the NDC is no exception.Ade Coker was on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday.The NDC then in opposition in 2004 went to court to demand a re-collation of the election results even after the Electoral Commission (EC) declared former President John Agyekum Kufuor winner of the elections.The final results released by the EC in 2004 gave then President Kufuor 52.4 percent of the total votes cast as against then Professor John Evans Atta Mills 44.6 per cent.But five Judges sitting on the case presided over by Justice Sophia Akuffo, unanimously affirmed that the declaration of the 2004 presidential and parliamentary elections results by the EC was constitutional and right.Reminiscing his party’s experience in 2004, Ade Coker also described the New Patriotic Party (NPP) which is challenging the legitimacy of President John Mahama as "bad losers".According to him, the NPP knows perfectly well that the court case is an exercise in futility but they only want to frustrate the governance of this country.The NDC Chairman claimed the petitioners, since the case began, have not been able to prove the alleged irregularities they claimed happened during the elections.He maintained that the EC did not violate any Constitutional rule because all the parties attested to the result before it was declared."If they [NPP] had won the elections would they have gone to court to submit the nation to this?" he quizzed.Ade Coker said the NPP should blame itself for the defeat and quit sending false signal to their supporters.
