Majority Leader, Dr Benjamin Kunbuor today had to apologise to Parliament for bringing a government business which had errors in it.That was 24-hours after he vowed not to allow any shoddily done government business to be laid before the House.Dr Kunbuor who is also the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs told Joy News on Tuesday: “There is no amount of pressure that will make me do the wrong thing in parliament. Even if that bill has to wait for another sitting, it has to.”But today in Parliament, errors were identified on government’s request for waiver of stamp duty to enable Cocoa Board access a loan to purchase cocoa for this year’s crops season.Government is requesting one percent on an amount of 1.5 billion dollars which comes to 15 million dollars. However an amount of 150 million was quoted on the document.The Majority Leader eat the humble pie after the ranking member on the finance committee Dr. Anthony Osei Akoto drew his attention to the error.Dr. Kunbuor was therefore forced to apologise for the error.However, he pleaded that the paper is allowed to be laid with a promise to keep his earlier vow.“If any error occurs, in terms of somebody wanting to compute one percent or 1.5 million and says it is 150 million when we know that it is actually 15 million, we can only apologise to the house that they should look at this thing and that it should never recur again.”But Minority leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu however disagrees, insisting the proper thing must be done.
