The Chieftaincy Minister has been asked to play a lead role in peace building efforts in Teshie, following violent chieftaincy clashes on Thursday.The deputy Majority and Minority Leaders made the call on Friday following the death of a resident in Teshie in clashes which erupted when a chief was allegedly installed yesterday. Several others were said to have sustained varying degrees of injuries.Four persons were arrested but the police are still in search for assailants who fled the scene.The incident has left residents troubled. They are seeking better security from the police.Chairman of the Greater Accra Regional Security Council, Julius Debrah is seeking a court injunction on the installation of chiefs.The issue found expression on the floor of Parliament with both the deputy Majority and Minority Leaders condemning the act.Joy News Parliamentary correspondent Elton John Brobbey reported the Deputy Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Benita Sena Okiti-Duah as saying the chieftaincy clashes must not be allowed to continue.Mrs. Okit-Duah who is also the MP for the area, charged the police to be firm in their quest to maintain law and order.She also counseled the factions to resort to dialogue instead of violence.The Speaker said the Chieftaincy Minister Dr. Henry Seidu Dannaa must take steps to ensure peace in the area.
