Accra Mayor, Alfred Vanderpuye says cases of cholera in the national capital have reduced as a result of the Assembly’s interventions.The mayor says only 12 cases of cholera have so far been recorded this mid-year. Around this time last year 473 cases were reported.At a news conference in Accra earlier today, Mr. Vanderpuye also disclosed about 3,528 home owners who had no toilets in their homes have been prosecuted."During the mid-year because we are aware of the rains and its attendant issues and sometimes negative factors, it has always been necessary for us to undertake certain measures."We introduced the polluter-pay-systems by way of ensuring effective collection of refuse; the prosecution of home owners without toilets in their premise.“…We have also reduced open defecation as a result of the provision of toilet facilities in premises.“As a result of the prosecutions, 13,259 new toilets have been constructed by the public in their homes,” he chronicled.
