The National Peace Council (NPC) has vowed to do everything to ensure that Ghana remains united and peaceful after the Supreme Court had given its ruling on the Election Petition hearing.
The Reverend Professor Emmanuel Asante, President of the Council, said they were working hard to get the political leaders to talk to their followers and encourage them to accept the outcome of the petition in good faith.
He was speaking at the opening of a week’s training on mediation, dialogue and negotiations for board members and staff of the NPC in Kumasi.
Rev Asante said, the NPC as a vital component of the national peace architecture and the main catalyst of peace, would put in place measures to help the people to respect the rule of law.
The Rev Prof Asante appealed to parties to the election dispute to be circumspect and stop speculating and making pre-judicial statements.
He urged Ghanaians to have confidence and trust in the judicial system and allow the judges to adjudicate the matter without fear or favour.
He expressed the gratitude of the Council to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the European Union (EU) for their tremendous support.
Mr Lawrence Lachmansingh, Peace and Governance Advisor of the UNDP, said peace was critical to nation building, hence they would continue to collaborate with the Council to strengthen Ghana’s infrastructure for peace.
