A Fulani herdsman who allegedly butchered a farmer to death at Yizesi in the Walewale District of the Northern Region has also been butchered to death allegedly by the family members of the farmer.
A resident of the area, Aisha Ibrahim told Adom News at about 2pm on Thursday, the farmer, whose name was only given as Wafu, went on a routine visit to his farm and found that the cattle of the Fulani herdsman had destroyed part of his farm.
Wafu reportedly went to the tent Fulani herdsman and urged him to keep his cattle off the farm, but the Fulani man did not take kindly to that and butchered Wafu to death.
On hearing what had happened, the family members of Wafu also marched to the tent of the Fulani herdsman, butchered him to death and burnt down his tent.
According to Aisha, the family members of Wafu did not stop there; they went on to burn down the tents of other Fulani herdsmen in the area till late in the night.
Aisha said her brother called the police from Walewale, but as at 8pm when she spoke with Adom News, the police had still not arrived and the two bodies were still in the bush where they were butchered as the family of Wafu kept burning down Fulani tents.
She later told Adom News police arrived in the area at dawn and had since been in the bush.
Adom News would follow up for more on this story.
