Lawyers and litigants at the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly Circuit Court and the Kumasi High Court say the courts are in need of immediate rehabilitation.
Luv FM's Erastus Asare-Donkor reports that the building housing the Circuit Court has been in use since the 80's but has never seen any major rehabilitation.
According to him, the outer walls of the court building have numerous cracks and the inner walls show that rain water seeps into the courtroom anytime it rains.
Some litigants who spoke to Asare-Donkor said a part of the roof caved in while proceedings were ongoing.
The Judges’ chamber at the Circuit Court also doubles as the enclosure for exhibits and dockets.
Asare-Donkor reports that the chamber is packed with all sorts of documents, from Indian hemp to vital court documents. Only a small space has been allocated for the Judge.
The Registrar is also crammed into a small space with one of the court’s recorders.
The wooden facility that serves as a cell for keeping accused persons is also in a very poor state.
The front part of the Kumasi High Court is an eyesore. The driveway to the Court was full of gullies filled with rain water. According to a client of the Court, anytime it rains movement on the stretch of road leading to the court becomes very difficult.
Although there have some renovations in the past, the High Court building needs repainting at least.
