Road users, especially motorists, who ply the Atwima-Techiman stretch of the Kumasi-Ofoase Road in the Ashanti region, are complaining about its continued deterioration. The state of roads in the country has led to persistent carnage and destruction of property. The Atwima-Techiman road which connects towns like Ohwimase, Dechemuoso, Techiman and Boko, according to users, has become a death trap.It also serves as an alternative route for drivers who ply the Abuakwa road.A greater portion of the tarred road is scrapped off making it difficult for drivers to use it especially during the rainy season.Using this road at night is considered suicide mission for any driver.Damage of vehicle exhaust pipes and heavy cloud of dust that follows every moving vehicle, among others, have become the lot of road users. At the Techiman end of the road is a damaged bridge with a deep drench in the middle.Residents in the area say they are getting tired of always covering the gaping hole with wooden slabs and lorry tyres which end up being stolen.“At Atwima-Techiman Dwahamu, the bridge has collapsed for three years now. I personally used some of my firewood to cover the trench created in the middle of the road. But unfortunately they get stolen all the time”, said a resident.“In the night it becomes dangerous to walk through this area because there are no street lights. The unlucky ones always get attacked. I guess they want an accident to occur before they do something about it; we are tired of even talking about it. For three years now nothing has been done about it”, he added.Luv News checks reveal the Ashanti Regional Minister, Eric Opoku, recently visited the area and promised prompt solution. However, people in communities along the road say they are tired of promises, and want to see action.
