The Cape Coast court complex, which houses the Circuit, Magistrate and High courts in the municipality, like most courts across the country, is rotting away due to several decades of neglect.
Joy News’ Central regional correspondent, Richard Kojo Nyarko, reports that the court complex is an eye sore of dusty, loose hanging electrical wires, wall cracks and weak wooden structures.
Most of the windows of the court building are falling off and the dusty ceiling fans are also not working.
Because of the proximity of the court complex to the sea, every metal surface at the court complex has corroded.
“A casual look at the whole edifice suggests the court hasn’t been painted for decades”, reports Richard Kojo Nyarko.
The court complex which was established in 1976 by then Head of State and Chairman of the Supreme Military Council, General Kutu Acheampong, has seen no major renovation since then.
Throughout this week Joy News has been bringing you reports from across the country on the state of court houses in the nation, and one thing that has run through all of them is that they have been neglected for too long.
