Police at Funsi in the Wa East district of the Upper West Region are hunting for a groom-to-be who allegedly inflicted cutlass wounds on his uncles for opposing his marriage to his own blood sister.
Bayon Wiisiimaayaawie, together with his father and other accomplices are being investigated for the attack on three persons, Acting Upper West Police Public Relations Officer ASP Edmund Adinkrah Nyamekye confirmed to Joy News.
Narrating the incident to Rafiq Salam, ASP Nyamekye said the suspect fell out with his uncles who were opposing his marriage to his sister living in a nearby community.
The uncles- Adam Dagbashi, 43; Sintuo Bayaabatii, 50 insisted the impending marriage was a taboo and will not give their blessing to it.
But the groom’s father was in vehement support of the marriage.
According to ASP Nyamekye, a meeting was called by the family members to resolve the impasse but it turned into a scuffle which was quickly resolved by the police.
The misunderstanding however degenerated with the groom-to-be, his father and other accomplices butchering family relations who were in opposition to the marriage.
Adam Dagbashi, his son, 17 year old Dagbashie and Sintuo Bayaabatii sustained varying degrees of cutlass wounds and have been admitted to the Wa Regional Hospital.
The suspects are currently at large. The victims are expected to be discharged soon, doctors said.
