The investigative report on a Nigeria cargo plane crash that killed 10 Ghanaians when it crashed into a 207 Benz Bus, is out. But sanctions may also be out of Ghana’s hands.The report published after a year’s investigations have faulted the pilot of the Nigerian Allied Air cargo plane, after it crashed into the Hajj Village near the El Wak Sports Stadium in Accra.The pilot taxied in about 6,000 ft – into the middle of the runaway, when he could have done so much earlier at 1,000ft on a rain-soaked surface.The plane crashed into the wall and into the bus. The fatal incident occurred on 2nd June 2012Captain Alec Grant Sam, chairman of the investigative committee on Tuesday said Ghana would be sending the report to the Ministry of Civil Aviation in Nigeria. This is because the aircraft is Nigerian registered and its crew are all Nigerians.He expressed the hope that the Ministry would conduct some investigations. The Nigerian authorities are ‘probably’ better placed to mete out sanctions. Without attempting to speculate, he said the Nigerian authorities could take several courses of action.“The ball will be in her court very shortly”, Captain Grant noted and predicted that the two Ministers will meet to discuss the report.The Minister of Transport Dzifa Attivor has also said they will be studying the report with the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) to determine the next course of action. The Minister says she may call on the Attorney-General for legal advice.Miss Attivor said compensation for victims was a matter for the airline’s insurance company to deal with. Her checks revealed that families of victims have been compensated.Meanwhile the license of the pilot has been seized – reportedly.
