Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) says it will reserve full praise until after full implementation by government of an investigative report on alleged financial malfeasance at the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency(GYEEDA).
The report was the work of an investigative committee set up by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah.
It was after a Joy News investigative report by Manasseh Azure Awuni confirmed that, Ghana was losing millions every month through questionable contracts at GYEEDA
The report has been presented to President Mahama who has promised radical reforms
Speaking on Top Story on Joy FM, Linda Ofori, the Program Advisor at the anti-corruption agency was wary of full praise for government.
Sure, government had done well to finish a comprehensive report, but as Madam Ofori suggested, praise would have to wait until the report had been implemented fully.
She referred to an aspect of the report that said officials caused a shift of the focus of the popular youth program from employment generation opportunities to corruption cash-cow for a few.
These persons should be prosecuted, she said.
Linda Ofori believes in enforcement of legislation and nothing short of this could satisfy public expectation.
To this effect, GII would be studying the report and monitor its implementation.
GYEEDA, then National Youth Employment Program (NYEP) of Ghana was established in 2006 by the John Kufour administration as an agency under the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
It is to address the country's youth unemployment with the aim of empowering Ghanaian youth so they could add positively to the socio-economic and sustainable development of the nation.
