Interior Minister, Kwesi Ahwoi, has condemned the recruitment of persons into the security agencies based on their political affiliation.
The Minister said commanders of the security agencies must be resolute and fight any external pressures on them to recruit based on partisan political affiliations.
“I am bringing this up because service commanders are saddled with this big problem where they are accused of taking sides...politicising the [security] agencies [they] are heading”, said the Minister.
Speaking at the Meet the Press Series in Accra on Tuesday July 16, the Minister said the situation, which had transcended various agencies such as the Police, Fire Service, Prisons among others, is a dangerous trend that must be nipped in the bud.
According to him, the current practice of recruiting NDC affiliated Fire officers or NPP affiliated fire officers must stop immediately.
In a related development, Director General in charge of Administration at the Ghana Police Service, COP Rose Bio Atinga has denied allegations that some Police personnel buy their own uniforms and boots.
Reacting to a question from a Reporter, COP Rose Bio Atinga said the Police Service had taken delivery of thousands of uniforms and boots, indicating there was no way Police personnel could be made to buy them.
