Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic has called on Wayne Rooney to stay at Old Trafford if he wants to win trophies.
Speaking after United's 2-0 victory over Wigan Athletic in the Community Shield, defender Vidic urged the striker to ignore speculation about his future and focus on collecting silverware at the Premier League champions.
Chelsea have so far had two bids rejected for the 27-year-old England international, but Vidic insists Rooney still has a future at United.
"I think he (Wayne Rooney) is at the best club in the world," said Vidic.
"Obviously there is so much speculation over whether he will leave or stay.
"In the last four years I was in that position as well. People were saying I will leave the club when I was still here and I enjoy playing for this club.
"I believe Manchester United is the biggest club in the world and I think there is no point in leaving."
Two goals from Robin van Persie at Wembley gave David Moyes his first silverware since arriving from Everton during the close-season, and Vidic is in a positive frame of mind ahead of the new Premier League season.
"We're looking forward to this season," he said. "We always want to improve, we always want to win the trophy.
"This year I believe people question us even more. Alex (Ferguson) left, we know how good he is and how many trophies he won for the club but we want to prove we can win the trophies again."
Sunday's comfortable victory over Wigan gave player-coach Ryan Giggs his ninth Community Shield victory, and he is targeting more trophies in the coming season.
"We obviously wanted to win it and put on a good show," he said. "It's about winning trophies, it's about competing for trophies.
"You can't win every year but we want to compete and give ourselves the best chance and that's what we've done over the years. We're the champions, we know how hard it is to defend it but we'll do our best."
