Supporters and sympathizers of Mr. Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, General Secretary for the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), are set to hold a night vigil for him as he prepares to appear before the Supreme Court on Wednesday.
The religious event is expected to take place at 6p.m. at the party’s regional office at Bantama in Kumasi.
Worshippers will be on their feet for hours of open-air intercession prayers for their General Secretary.
The Supreme Court hearing the 2012 election petition issued summons last Friday to Sir John and another NPP activist, Hopeson Adorye, over comments they are reported to have made about the petition.
Even before the two embattled party executives appear before the nine Justices, many party faithful are already pleading for mercy for them.
However, Ashanti Regional Secretary of the party, Samuel Pyne has told Nhyira FM that, Sir John and his colleague need Divine intervention.
Speaking with Kofi on Kroyimu Nsem segment of Dwaso Nsem Monday, Sam Pyne said many supporters are unhappy with the call but hope to have him exonerated from the charges.
At Sir John’s home town, Sakora-Wonoo, residents are in double grief as they mourn the death of a relative said to be his nephew.
Some of them who spoke on the programme wished him well.
