Former world champion, Joshua Clottey, is set for a return into the ring after an absence of almost two years.
The 35-year-old is scheduled to fight American Dashon Johnson on September 14 in a light-middleweight contest in New York.
The bout, which will be Clottey’s first since stopping another American, Calvin Green, in two rounds in Texas, USA, in November 2011, is intended to be a warm-up toward a major fight later in the year or early next year.
“I have been training for sometime now, and I am happy this fight is about to happen,” Clottey, nicknamed Grand Master, told the Daily Graphic on phone from his New York base.
It will also be Clottey’s second fight as a light-middleweight since moving up from the welterweight division where he ruled the world under the International Boxing Federation (IBF).
But since beating Green, every other proposed fight has fallen through.
He lost his last two world title opportunities, first to Miguel Cotto rather controversially and then multiple titlist Manny Pacquiao in 2009 and 2011 respectively.
But the power puncher overpowered Green in spectacular fashion on his way to a second round knockout victory to revive hopes of another possible chance at a world title.
