Despite leaving the scene, Herbert Mensah love for Asante Kotoko has not dwindled and his instrumentality has resulted in a lucrative sponsorship deal for the club he led for a number of years.
Symbion Energy of the United States will next year make financial commitment to Asante Kotoko in a sponsorship deal which will also include the construction of a modern football academy.
Symbion has already committed itself to construct 450 megawatts of power in the country and their sponsorship of Kotoko will be part of their social responsibility programme.
Though details of the deal is been worked out Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Symbion, William Olukoya told Joy News the football academy will include school facilities for children between the ages of 9 and 16.
“The astro turf and the flood light technology we are bringing to Asante Kotoko is the latest and also the kids, apart from playing football, will be schooled in classroom and there is scholarship package for further studies in the US for brilliant students who may not progress to play football at the higher level and Symbion will pay for all expenses,” he added.
According to Mr. Olukoya, Kotoko was chosen after fruitful discussion with Herbert Mensah and also the clubs association with English premier side Sunderland FC.
He is hopeful the deal when finally realized will witness much improvement in the finances of Asante Kotoko and give opportunity to young people to explore their soccer and academic skills.
“We are working with people like Herbert Mensah to push this agenda through which we hope will help young pupils realize their football dream,” Mr. Olukoya stressed.
