Barima Owusu Afari, Nkosuohene of Worawora has stated that before the creation of the new Biakoye District, the paramount chiefs of the area had met and agreed to site the capital at Worawora if their petition to Government materialised.
He said it therefore came to them as a surprise when the Government named Nkonya Ahenkro as the capital.
Barima Afari said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency after attempts by Mr Maxwell Kofi Jumah, Deputy Minister of Local Government to mediate between Nkonya chiefs and chiefs of the other traditional areas - Worawora, Apesokubi, Bowiri and Tapa – was deadlocked after two days of talks.
He said Worawora had the available infrastructure like a hospital; a bank; Senior High school; rice mill; police station; ICT centre; low cost housing estate; a government rest house among other things which qualified it to be the capital.
Barima Afari said it was also centrally located for those coming into the District through Krachi West, Krachi East, Kadjebi and Jasikan Districts.
He said unlike Worawora, which was a town, Ahenkro was made up of smaller communities with no infrastructure to start as the capital of Biakoye District.
Barima Afari, therefore called on the Government to take a second look at the siting of the capital at Nkonya Ahenkro.
He praised the Government for giving a listening ear to their plea for a district which successive governments failed to do.
