The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed concern about the use of State resources on the numerous activities of the newly elected flag bearer of the NPP, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The statement, issued by the Deputy General Secretary, Elvis Afriyie-Ankra said; "Whilst we do not begrudge him, his constitutional and fundamental rights of freedom of movement and association to pay courtesy calls on chiefs, opinion leaders and other dignitaries and to organize numerous parties and dinners for his friends, supporters and sympathizers, we are appalled by the creeping abuse of state resources and machinery to the disadvantage of the other president candidates.
"This is manifested in the array of state motorcades that escort him wherever he goes. On his visit to the Agbogbloshie market, he had in his retinue a whole contingent of military and police personnel."
It appears also that, some of the State media houses have decided to become the official mouthpiece of the NPP and their candidate, it said.
"We wish to reiterate that, a peaceful, free and fair election is determined not only by activities on the polling day, but on a level playing field characterized by equal opportunities for all the various political players.
"It is curious to note that during the NPP primaries, most of the aspirants, including Nana Akufo-Addo complained about the unfair advantages and executive bias in favour of one of the candidates. Were those complaints genuine or merely self-serving?
"We urge the government of the NPP to be circumspect in their use of state resources in this election year. This call is even more imperative in the face of harsh economic realities characterized by unprecedented high prices of petroleum products, which has virtually eroded the purchasing power of the majority of Ghanaians."
