A former Finance Secretary in the erstwhile Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) government Dr Kwesi Botchwey says he is still pondering over renewed calls on him to run for president in the 2008 elections.
The economist who works as a professor of Practising International Development at the Tuft University in the US is currently on holiday in Accra.
His reaction comes amid speculations in the media that he is back in the country to reignite his presidential ambition after a long stay abroad.
Speaking to Joy News' Akwasi Sarpong at his residence in Accra on Tuesday January 8, 2007, Dr Botchwey said although he foresees a successful presidential bid, embarking on any such enterprise should be driven by a need to work for the interest of the country, adding he would not run into the race on personal ambition.
“I am reflecting with all the seriousness and humility that is needed…I have not made up my mind to offer myself as a presidential candidate on an independent platform or on anybody’s platform,” Dr Botchwey added.
His last bid to become presidential candidate failed when he lost to NDC presidential candidate John Evans Atta Mills in 2004.
Responding to whether he had received any overture from the NDC to take up a running mate bid, Dr Botchwey responded in the negative.
