The Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panyin, has cautioned politicians to be circumspect in their utterances during the campaign in order not to disturb the peace that the country is enjoying.
He said Ghanaians could not afford to toy with the peace in the country and that what was happening in other African countries especially Kenya should serve as a warning.
Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panyin said this when the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo -Addo, paid a courtesy call on him at the Ofori Panyin Palace at Kyebi.
He said Ghana had come of age in democracy and urged politicians to see themselves as political opponents and not enemies and avoid insults, bitterness, rancour and acrimony during and after the general election in December.
The Okyehene appealed to the Electoral Commission to be fair and firm during the elections so that no political party would have cause to question the results.
Nana Akufo-Addo said if given the mandate as President he would ensure that peace and development of the country would be his priority.
He said President John Agyekum Kufuor and his administration had laid a solid economic foundation and he would ensure that he built on that foundation.
Mr Yaw Osafo-Maafo, Member of Parliament for Oda, reaffirmed former aspirants' support for Nana Akufo-Addo in order to retain power.
