Mr Joseph Kwaku Adjei, President of Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), has sent a message of goodwill to members and prayed that the year would bring great blessings, prosperity and success in all their endeavours. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Nkoranza, he advised teachers to live above reproach to maintain their dignity. He commended those teachers, who had remained with the Association and gave the assurance that its leadership would continue to offer selfless and dedicated service. Mr Adjei said negotiations about the 10 per cent salary arrears of teachers had been completed and it was hoped the Government would honour its promise and pay them this year. He stressed the need for teachers to rely on negotiations with the Government in their demands and not to resort to strikes “since industrial actions affect the national developmental agenda”. Mr Adjei, who is Head Master of Nkoranza Senior High School, called on teachers to redouble efforts and improve their teaching methodologies towards the successful implementation of the new education reforms. He cautioned parents to instil discipline in their children so that they would respect their teachers. Parents should also show great interest in the education of their children and offer them support and encouragement through the provision of their basic needs. Mr Adjei advised students to take their studies seriously so that they could attain higher levels education. He urged teachers to eschew alcoholism, lateness, laziness and absenteeism to enhance the image of the profession. Source: GNA
